Our deep-rooted experience representing governmental entities has shaped a legislative practice grounded in insight, strategy, and trusted relationships. With decades of combined service in state agencies, legislative offices, and the Attorney General’s Office, we bring firsthand understanding of the complex legal and policy challenges faced by public institutions.
Bickerstaff’s longstanding work with governmental entities gives our legislative team a deep understanding of the legal and policy challenges public-sector clients face. Drawing on this experience, we have developed a focused and effective process to advance our clients’ priorities at the Capitol. This includes cultivating strategic relationships with local, regional, and state leaders; educating and advocating to protect our clients’ interests; and coordinating closely with client leadership and staff to execute each legislative strategy.
Many of our attorneys bring decades of public-sector experience, including service as general counsel to major state agencies, legislative aides, and Division Chiefs in the Attorney General’s Office. As a team, we offer deep insight into a wide range of governmental issues and strong, well-established working relationships with legislators and their staff.
Our legislative team offers two core services designed to support and advance our clients’ interests before the Legislature.
Strategic Planning
We partner with clients to identify their legislative needs, develop targeted engagement plans, and prioritize outreach to legislative leadership, individual legislators, and agency officials. Our team also assists in crafting strategic positions and messaging to support client interests on emerging or complex issues.
Legislative Consulting
We provide comprehensive support throughout the legislative cycle, including drafting proposed legislation, preparing and delivering testimony before committees, and developing testimony materials and position papers. We also track bills, provide timely status updates, analyze legislative proposals, and negotiate on critical issues impacting our clients.
