Myra McDaniel Honored with UT Law’s Virgil C. Lott Medal

The University of Texas School of Law has posthumously awarded the Virgil C. Lott Medal to former BHDA Partner Myra McDaniel. UT Law established the Virgil C. Lott Medal to honor its first African American graduate. The medal is presented every other year at a gala dinner, and recipients are chosen by a distinguished committee headed by Dean Ward Farnsworth, former Dean Larry Sager, and previous winners.

In addition to her many other accomplishments, Myra, UT Law class of 1975, was Texas’ first African American Secretary of State. BHDA partners Bob Heath and David Mendez–along with former partners Steve Bickerstaff and Martha Smiley–attended the award dinner last week. The firm also made a contribution to the Virgil C. Lott Scholarship in Myra’s memory.
