In September of 2016, BHDA Attorney Kimberly Grinnan published a summary of the opening oral arguments in the closely watched Paxton v. City of Dallas case.
This Public Information Act suit involved the issue of whether the City of Dallas acted within its legal right by relying on the attorney-client privilege as a “compelling reason” for withholding information in response to a PIA request past the required 10-day time frame for requesting an open records determination.
The Supreme Court of Texas ruled on the case in February, and Kimberly has authored an overview (linked pdf below) which includes the case background, decision, and key takeaways from the ruling.
