Biography
John Jones was born in Lufkin, Texas on June 11, 1959 and resided in Houston, Texas for most of his youth, where he graduated early from E. L. Furr High School in 1976. After graduation, he attended Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration in 1980. While at Sam Houston State University, he received many awards and honors including a Department of Army Scholarship, the L.P. Gentry Award, Dean's list, Military Order of World Wars Award, Distinguished Military Student and Distinguished Military Graduate Awards, the Reserve Officer's Association of America Award, and the outstanding member of Scabbard and Blade Military Honor Society. Upon graduation, Mr. Jones was commissioned as a regular Army second lieutenant and reported for active duty. He served in the United States Army from December 1980 until September 1987 in a variety of command and staff assignments where he also received the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal and the Parachutist's Badge. During his military service, Mr. Jones received a Master of Science degree in Management Science (Systems Management) from American Technological University and obtained the rank of captain. Subsequent to his Army service, Mr. Jones entered Texas Tech University School of Law where he was awarded the American Jurisprudence awards for contracts and trial advocacy. He graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence in 1990. He was also a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity at Texas Tech University.

Representative Experience

Mr. Jones represents numerous financial institutions, business entities, and individuals in the United States, Europe, and Mexico. He is admitted to practice law in Texas and is licensed to practice before all Texas state courts, the United States District Courts for the Western, Eastern, Southern, and Northern Districts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. His litigation experience includes banking and financial services, bankruptcy, business, commercial, consumer, and trademark litigation. Recent litigation includes the successful defense of a major financial institution in a class action case, defense of a large regional electric company, in a mass action real estate claim, and successful enforcement of a foreign judgment on appeal.

Career Highlights, Honors and Appointments
Mr. Jones was named one of twelve El Pasoans, Who Make a Difference by the El Paso Times in 1994 and was profiled in a state-wide exhibit (from 1997 to 2000) entitled "True to Life? Lawyers, Image and Reality" sponsored by the Governor Bill and Vara Daniel Center for Legal History at the Texas Law Center. In 2004, Mr. Jones received the "Star of Justice" Award from the Texas Access to Justice Commission, the Harold P. Kleinman Award from the Texas Equal Access to Justice Foundation and was named the Outstanding Member of the Mexican-American Bar Association of El Paso. Mr. Jones has also received the State Bar of Texas President's Certificate of Merit in 2001, the El Paso Bar Association's Pro Bono Award for 2001, Texas Young Lawyers Association President's Award of Merit in 1995, and was named the Outstanding Young Lawyer in El Paso in 1993. He was appointed by the Supreme Court of Texas as the first Chair of the newly created Texas Access to Justice Commission (2001-2004).
Professional Organizations and Community Involvement
Mr. Jones is actively involved in a variety of public service, community and legal activities. He has served as a Director of the El Paso Young Lawyers Association, El Paso Bar Association, and the Texas Young Lawyers Association. He is a former member of the Board of Directors of Acción Texas, Inc., a nationally acclaimed organization dedicated to providing opportunities to small business through its micro-enterprise lending activities. Mr. Jones is a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation, a Fellow of the Houston Bar Foundation (2008), a member of the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association, the Texas Association of Bank Counsel, Defense Research Institute, and the ABA Subcommittee on Consumer Financial Services Litigation.
